Mesquite Bean Newsletter for September 09

Dear Fellowship Family,

Hope all is well, and you are enjoying the somewhat cooler weather we are having...well in the mornings away. You can tell there is a hint of fall in the air, and for that I am grateful. I enjoy all seasons, but fall is my favorite by far.

We are still doing the Truth Project, and I think are over half done. It has been powerful. And I have learned so much. If you get the chance to take this course, I recommend that you do.

Unless you have had you head in the ground you all know what troubled times we are living in. It seems that daily this nation is sinking to new lows. Every day after reading the news I just sit and wonder, "what next". And at times I don't even want to know. Violence, natural disasters, corrupt government..it's all there. And it isn't just this nation, it's all over the world. The birth pangs are getting stronger each and every day. And for us as Believers that is good news! All this means is that we are getting closer and closer to seeing our Savior.

While that should get us excited, and it should. The word tells us to "occupy while we are here." That to me means that we just don't sit down and fold our hands and say,"well what will be will be." There are things that God has put in place that have to happen for the end to come. Nothing we can do will change that. But we were not put on this earth to sit and do nothing. We were put on it to glorify Him. How do we glorify Him? By living for Him. By telling others about Him. By living our lives in such a way that others see Him reflected in us. By standing up for the faith, and you may not think so now, because this country has always had freedom of worship, but we are entering into a phase very quickly that that may not always be true.

One thing that has hit me while watching "The Truth Project", it is this. How did all these evil things happen? Like teaching evolution as fact. Like the complete disregard for human life, abortion etc. It happened because Christians didn't make a stand. It happened because we don't know the Word. It happened because there was no outcry, no righteous anger. It happened because we don't take prayer seriously.

It is very easy in this day and time to let satan rob us of our joy. It is very easy to let fear come in. And there are many things to be uneasy about. But.....what does the Bible tell us about fear?

I love this verse in 2 Timothy 1:7.....For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

Fear does not come from God...it comes from the enemy. God does not want us to fear, He wants us to trust.

In Isaiah 26-3 God makes a promise....." You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed in you, because he trusts in You. ( vs. 4) Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord is everlasting strength."

I wrote this in my journal in June and thought I would share it will all of you, I hope it encourages someone.

June 19th 2009

If it does not rain...God is still God.
If our country falls apart...God is still God.
If sickness comes into the house...God is still God.
If we go broke....God is still God.
If friendships prove false...God is still God.
If persecution comes....God is still God.

God is on His throne.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
God never changes.
God is just.
God is never wrong.
God never fails.
God is all powerful.
God is strong enought to bear our burdens, our sorrows and even sometimes our anger.
God loves us.
God loved us so much,
That He sent His only son,
To die a gruesome,
Death.
So that we could be free,
From the bondage of sin and,
Death.
The world has no hold on us.
the enemy has no hold on us.
If we die, we only die in the flesh.
Our spirit is set free to soar to the heavens.
Where our Father awaits.

Deut. 31-6

" Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear, nor be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is with you. He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." ( NKJV)

New news!

Dear Fellowship Family,

Wow it has been awhile since I posted on this blog! Yikes! I am ashamed to have let things slide so. Forgive me, I have no excuse except for just being busy with life.
So what is the new news? Well we will be starting a new Bible study this Friday evening. It is called the "Truth Project", Randall Jones will be leading this study. I am not going to say a lot about it here, because it would take too long. But it is understanding the world view in line with the Word of God. That is a poor description, but all I can come up with. This study will take 13 weeks.. so in light of that we have decided to meet every Friday night through the summer months. And some more changes we will make are...for one, the time..we will try to be at the church at 6:30 and have a time of fellowship, no meal, just drinks and cookies are something like that...and at 7 we will start the study which will be an hour long video teaching and then a discussion time, going over what we learned in the video. We want to start right at 7 so please try and keep that in mind. I know that this is quite different from anything we have done in the past, but I think the study will be beneficial. Sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of what we believe and why.

With that I will say adios and hope to see you there.

God bless and Happy Trails

Christian Cowboy Fellowship ( Newsletter for Feb. 2009)

Dear Fellowship family,

It has been awhile since I have had the newsletter out and updated this site. Sorry. But life being what it is....sometimes it is hard to get it all done. We have been very busy with getting through Christmas and January. February so far has not slowed down much either. Next month will bring the starting of cow works. It seems cow works are a year around event at this outfit anymore.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season. We did. And now we are awaiting the arrival of little Quintin....we are so excited. But not more excited then Jen and John. Especially Jen. Bless her heart. She is very very ready to have this baby here on dry ground so to speak. Keep them in prayer just a few more weeks !

Friday night in CCF and Saturday night is Valentines. So in light of the holiday of Love we will be doing a movie night Friday night. This is something we have never done before, and most likely won't do very often. But we are going to show " Fireproof". If you have not seen this movie then you have missed a very good one. And that isn't an easy thing to say now a days. Most are not worth a hoot. But this movie is very good. It is good for couples, and singles alike. The message of the Gospel is very clearly given. And even though it is a movie about a struggling marriage....anyone can see it and come away with something. So come out Friday and have some dessert and watch the movie.

Hope to see you there,

Marquita

Service times for February

Friday 13th.......note there is a change. We will not have a full meal. So eat supper before you come. We will start the movie a 6:30. Please bring a dessert to share afterwards. We will have fellowship afterwards. This movie is fairly long and for those of small children we didn't want them to be out and about late. Sooooooo don't forget we will start the movie at 6:30.

Friday 27th..........meal at 6:30 Service at 7:00 back to things as usual.

Something to pray about.........

We are need of someone to care for the youngsters. I don't want anyone to do it out of guilt...but pray and if you feel the Lord calling you to this then let me know. I am not talking about just babysitting I am talking about taking on the teaching of a class. It does not have to be a huge thing. But it has to be Bible based, and consistent.

Mesquite Bean for November 2008

Dear Fellowship Family,
I hope this finds you all well, and hopefully escaping all the ugly bugs that seem to be making the rounds this fall.
I am going to deviate from what I originally intended to write. I feel the Lord leading me in a different direction, in light of the recent election results. So bare with me.
As Buck and I sat and waited for the results of the election to come in it became clear pretty quick how the outcome would be. Now I am not going to lie..it was a pretty sick feeling. We worried and we stressed and we turned off the news and went to bed. Buck was up early and we turned the TV back on...hoping for a miracle, but no the news was the same. We had a new President and he stands for everything we don't.
As Christians the road this man may very well lead our country down is a dreary one. It is not because he is black, it is not because he is a Democrate..it is because of his apparent core beliefs. The care of the unborn first and foremost. This man will be the most pro-choice president that the United States has ever elected. Literally millions of innocent lives have been snuffed out in our nation since Roe Vs. Wade. In the last several years the pro-life movement has made some ground. President Bush has made a stand on both partial birth abortion and stem cell research and for that he is to be commended. If things go the way people are saying they will when this administration takes office all that will be over, and from what I understand some of the first things on the agenda will be a repeal of the law and now tax payers will help suppot embryonic stem cell reasearch. Where do they get these stem cells? From aborted babies. Or I should call it what it is...murdered babies. And so the cycle goes on...millions of innocent lives at stake, millions of innocent lives taken. If you think that the Lord does not take the spilling of this innocent blood seriously well you better think again.
And what about the "gay agenda"? Thankfully 3 states have proclaimed that marriage is between one man and one woman. Obama has already said and shown his sympathy toward this part of our population saying that he would not support a "one man, one woman" marriage amendment. Now I think it is a pretty sad state that we find ourselves in where marriage has to be defined. I doubt that it ever crossed our founding fathers minds that this could happen. But it has. If marriage isn't held up as a union between one man and one woman...then anything goes. There has to be boundaries. Marriage has always been intended to be a picture of our relationship as believers with Christ. For Christians, and I say that because in the secular world marriage has been made into a farce. But for Christians it is a holy covenant between a man and a woman and God. It is not to be entered into lightly, and it is to be held in high esteem and honor, and guarded as a precious gift from our loving Father to His children.
Our Constitution and freedoms? Where will we be in 4 years? We are a free country...but...how much longer? No I don't think it will happen all at once. I think it will be more like the frog in the pan of water. Put him in there and just start to turn up the heat a little a a time, until before he knows it he is soup. We are already hearing whisperings of things to come..and honestly have been for quite some time. Sometimes I see us just like a herd of cattle we eat what is thrown out of the feeder before us and we go where we are driven. Without a thought in our heads. We better get to thinking.
I know the economy is bad. Nobody wants higher taxes....but where is the money going to come from that is going to fund all these so called "free programs"? It has to come from somewhere and I would venture to guess that it will come from our pockets. And why is it right to tax the rich just because they are rich? The way I look at it if they have the ingenuity to make the money why should they be punished. I thought that this was what this country was all about. Free enterprise and being able to excel?
I have said all that just to say this. In the natural realm the future isn't looking all that bright for this country. But.... where do you place your trust and faith? Do you place in on the man in the White House? Or do you place it where it rightly belongs,on the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords? Because no matter who is sitting over our country the Lord is our only hope. We as a people are facing a battle, a spiritual battle. And let me ask you this...were you in prayer before this election? I know many many that were fasting and praying. Coming before the Lord with heartfelt prayers for our country. Are you still praying? Or have you thrown up your hands and declared that it is all over, its a done deal? And here is a hard one....maybe just for me, and I want to tell you that I have been struggling over this...are you praying for our new President? This man needs our prayers. For better or for worse he is the President elect. And the bible tells us we are to pray for those in authority over us. Pray for the man.Pray that the scales fall from his eyes. Pray for a changed heart. This is not the time for hate and strife in this country..stirrings have already begun. We as Christians have got to be the salt and the light. I plead with you all Seek the Lord while He may be found, and pray without ceasing. Live what you believe and be bold to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 33..read it.

God Bless you all , And God Bless America

Service Times for November.......Now pay attention! I am going to throw one at you...are you paying attention! Good now we want to have a Thanksgiving meal like we do every year....but this Friday the 14th won't work for that..and the last Friday is the 28th the day after Thanksgiving...many people may be gone...that could possibly include us..we may be in Texas. So we are going to switch dates. Yes I know that throws everyone for a loop...but place a sticky note on your noggin and every time you look in the mirror maybe you will be reminded so here is the service times for November.

This Friday November the 14th
Meal @ 6:30 and Service to Follow...I believe that Ross will be leading the service.

Friday the 21st....yes the 21st...Friday the 21st. We will be having our Thanksgiving meal. Now we do not have Turkey..but if you feel lead to bring one by all means do. We have Mexican food. Are we just being rebellious and discriminating against turkeys? No we just reckon that folks get a little turkeyed out by the time the Holiday season is over and we don't want to contribute to turkey fatigue. So in light of that please bring your most favorite dish and any kind of pie will be just hunky dory. And...be prepared to share what you are the most Thankful for...that will be our service. I think sometimes we just need to take the time and praise the Lord for all His has done.

Friday the 28th which is the last Friday of the month we will not have service....We will not have service.

Hope to see you soon

Mesquite Bean for October

The Mesquite Bean

Newsletter for Christian Cowboy Fellowship, Roswell NM, October Edition 2008

Dear Fellowship Family,

Praying all is well, and you all are growing in the Lord daily. I have a question for you all…are you a fence post? ( the fence post part will come next month) Or are you a tumblweed?

As a farmer’s daughter I have an aversion to weeks. Any kind of weeds. Weeds are not our friends. Did you know that there were no weeds in the Garden of Eden? Yep it’s true. But after the fall, guess what popped up? Weeds.

One of the most detestable weeds that I detest is tumbleweeds. Being sent to the cotton field as a young child with a pair of cotton gloves and a hoe is not a fond memory. I hate to hoe, and I hate weeds. But tumbleweeds….those are the worst. After they get any size on them at all they are horrible. They are prickly and hard to get too and just generally a nuisance. And once they are mature and die then they just turn lose from the ground and off they go. Tumbling here and there, spreading their tiny seeds, so the next year you will be assured of an even bigger and better crop of tumbleweeds. Not to mention that they ball up on anything that gets in their way. Fences seem to be the favorite. If you have ever had to pull tumbleweeds off of a fence, then you know what I am talking about. It is a chore. And the next time the wind blows guess what happens? You have to do it all over again.

I remember one time we were driving somewhere and we came upon this car, I think it was a station wagon, it was pulled over to the side of the road. Out in the field there were a couple and a few little kids, and they were picking up, you guessed it, tumbleweeds. My dad just looked, and shook his head. Then made mention that when they got back east, they were from New Hampshire or somewhere, that they, and their neighbors would be sorry they had ever transported those weeds back home.

Now what does a tumbleweed have to do with anything spiritual? Well it is like this. Every time I see a tumbleweed going by, it reminds me of how easy it is to be swayed, in our beliefs. In this day and time, it seems more than ever we are inundated by false teachers. False teaching abounds. Sadly it is not only cults that do this anymore. The Church is full, and getting fuller of false teachings. Teachings that do not line up with the word of God. And even more sad, is that people are laping it up like cream. They are like the tumbleweeds. They are not grounded in what the word has to say, and so they just tumble from one belief, one teaching, one teacher to another. Just tumbling along, and never taking root. Every time the wind blows something new down the road, off they go chasing after it.

I don’t want to be a tumbleweed. I want to be firmly planted in good soil. I want to be strong in my faith. I want to be rooted in the word of God, so that when the winds blow those roots will hold, and be strong. Not blown away rolling aimlessly down the road. I want to be a fence post…but you will have to wait till next month for that…..

I pray that none of you want to be tumbleweeds. That you all want to be rooted in the word of God. Not just tumbling aimlessly through life going which ever way the winds blow. But desire to stand steadfastly in your relationship with Christ.

I leave you with this… “ Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16, vs. 13 NKJV
